Foundations of Nursing

Guide for Foundations and Fundamentals of Nursing, including study habits, notetaking, and flashcards

1) Find what works-and stick with it!: Some tips and tricks may work better than others.Find whatever works for you, and when you do, stick with it!

2) Break it down: Cramming is not only stressful, but it's not effective in the long run. Try spreading your studying out over several days (the more time you have the better).

3) Buddy system: Need someone to talk through concepts with? Find a study buddy, or better yet, a study group! Find best practices for creating study groups here.

4) Ask for Help: Struggling with class in general, or just a specific concept? Talk to your instructor, either through Canvas, email, or during office hours. You can also ask a classmate.

1) Have a designated place for studying: Note, this doesn't have to be at your place. It could be anywhere (Hint: Like the Library)

2) Block out distractions. There are apps for your phone that you can use to block any app usage; you can even set a timer.

3) Keep track of deadlines. Planner, Canvas calendar, email or phone calendar, etc. are useful tools for tracking deadlines!

4) Schedule out your studying: This is especially useful for finals, since you may be studying for multiple tests at once.

5) Take care of yourself: Ignore the #nosleeplife. Getting enough sleep, eating well, and exercising prevents you from burning out.

6) Don't procrastinate: Don't wait until the last minute, and don't cram!
