Yes, you must fact check what any Generative AI model gives you, regardless of which one you choose!
Remember, ChatGPT and other Generative AI tools were trained on datasets. That means, even though they're constantly improving, the information they generate will rely heavily on that dataset. This can lead to inaccuracy, missing context, and even citations that don't exist!
How to Fact Check AI (specifically, Generative AI):
1) Using an AI tool that links its sources (e.g. Perplexity or Gemini)? Click the links and read the pages the AI cited or summarized.
2) Using a tool that doesn't link its sources (e.g. ChatGPT)? Search. Take the article title and do a web search. You can also try searching for the article by author or journal name.
3) Just looking to check AI's answer? Search snippets. Take snippets of its answers and do a web search. Remember to evaluate the website to make sure it's an acceptable source to use (Hint: Not sure how to? Check out our Website Evaluation Guide).
