Artificial Intelligence (AI)

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

By now you've probably heard the word Artificial Intelligence (AI) floating around, but what exactly is it?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an umbrella term for computer technology that completes tasks we think human intelligence is required for. A small sample of tasks include: understanding speech, writing essays or poems, or generating images.

The one you probably hear about the most is Generative AI, which is just like how it sounds! It's where the AI generates content: essays, poetry, digital art, to-do lists, etc. based on a prompt given by the user. This content is based off of datasets the model is trained on. ChatGPT and MidJourney are examples of Generative AI.

There are other types of AI, but Generative AI is the one we'll focus on in this guide. If you'd like more information about AI in general or other forms of AI, check out the Further Resources tab!
